Okay. Well, that's just what it says here. My point is being this, and what we have here, the packaging company is not listed per name. It's an industry bill rather than a specific company bill. Is that correct? Yes. Okay. Any
the word energy product and forest maintenance projects, and then it goes into the expansion. If I'm correct, what we're doing is looking at that Act 594, and this particular project qualifies to be under Act 594, is that correct? I'm not
pays sales tax. Okay. Representative McClure, you recognize the question. Thank you. Representative Beck, I'm reading here and I just want a clarification. Under the basic change line 2, it says act 594 of 2021 created an income tax credit for
and there seems to be a great disparity on the amount of money that it's going to take, even from district to district. So let's just take the if out and assume you have your operational cost
them. I agree on the if, and that is a huge if,
So my question is to the judges collectively, because I hear a common thread here. If operational expenses are covered or were covered, would you support this bill? Representative McClure, thank
of all, judges, thank you. I know you have a very, very difficult job. Each situation is very, very different. Each location is very, very different. I don't want to change positions with you at all. And to the parent that spoke, there's three things that are just gut-wrenching is watching your child be incarcerated and not have any answers. It's a feeling that you just can't describe.
explain the extent of binding actions a resolution has?
you, Chair. Then you're not recognized. No, I'm just kidding. Just kidding. Since we have many first-time legislators in here, could you
testimony. Senator Blake Johnson, District 21, Senate.
in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed? Congratulations, your bill passes. Thank you so much.
Okay. Come on down. Representative Beatty come on down. I didn't know y'all were meeting so I saw y'all on the camera whenever I was coming down and I understand and I was going to be stuck in traffic anyway so you too.
Senator Blake Johnson, District 21. Representative Mindy McElindon, District 10. All right. Y'all go ahead. I'm going to defer to Representative McElindon. is that okay all right
than you are restricting it to just this tax. So I just want you to think about that, that mathematically we may be leaving money on the table if we don't do this. But the end
result is making sure that the programs are taken care of. And I think you've accomplished that, so thank
So, if we've got reports that say it's going to make sure that we don't go backwards, then the only way we can go is forwards with the growth of the economy and funding Category A. Now, I don't have reports here, and I don't want to spend all weekend trying to figure all this out. But it would be worth the conversation to say as growth happens in Category A funding that you could wind up with more funding going in and being available
One of the things I did not hear this time, there are so many different laws, regulations, and rules about the mixing and canning and territories of stuff. But you can't convince me that with this tax in place, with all of our border activity, that we're not losing revenue in several places. We've got reports that are going to
make sure that we're not going to go backwards in funding on the Medicaid.
So it appears to me that the objective is to make sure that the Medicaid trust fund is funded well, so that we all feel safe about funding critical services to areas. And I'm in complete agreement with that because it's very, very close to home for me. But then when I look at the soda tax, it doesn't look from year to year that the soda tax revenue is increasing with the rate of inflation. So they're not keeping up with inflation.
years to think about this since the last time I've heard this.
