Representative Maddox, are you prepared to close for your bill? Yes, sir. Again, this is really just clarifying that your retirement accounts, your constituents' retirement accounts are exempt from creditors. That's all it really does, so I'd appreciate a good vote.
So right now our statute, it lists certain accounts, but then it also says or similar. So we're just making sure that your 401K, your HSA, things of that nature are not subject to execution by a creditor. We left the or similar plan as added layer of protection just to make certain, as a public policy, as you know, there are certain things we want you to be able to keep if you are sued and you lose a judgment. So that's all this bill does.

It really just clarifies certain things. What it does is it makes certain that certain retirement accounts are exempt from execution from creditors.
Depot, other retailers supported this legislation to help identify organized retail crime groups. And Arkansas was the very first state to pass this informed legislation. Over a dozen states have followed our lead over the next few years, which prompted the United States Congress to pass a slightly different version in 2023. So with the passage of the Federal Informed Act, We are merely updating our Arkansas statute, which started the process to conform with the federal law. So that is all that this bill does.
