to order safety conditions or attendance at a domestic violence intervention program for the parent in order to restore that that access to their child. Happy to answer any questions on this. Seeing none I'd appreciate a good vote. Representative Hudson
didn't affect the child or maybe mom has gone into treatment and has come out and is in a better position to to have custody or unsupervised visitation with the child it provides the judge with the ability to make certain findings to allow that visitation in those limited circumstances so they can make written findings as to whether or not the parent poses an ongoing risk of harm, whether they do not pose a risk of harm to the child and they can but are not required
other not have unsupervised access to their child that there has to be an actual hearing on the merits as to whether or not there has been domestic abuse. So merely making the allegation to the court would not be sufficient in this case to to rise to the level of not being able to seek custody or visitation. The other thing that it does is that even in situations in which there may have been a finding of domestic abuse so say for example maybe mom and dad had have gotten physical with each other or maybe it's something that
a definition for domestic abuse in the original joint custody law, so this gives us a definition that judges can look at. What we discovered after the joint custody law was in place for a couple of years is that the judges were seeking some additional guidance and clarification on what should be considered domestic abuse in these cases. So this bill provides that clarification and gives a specific definition as to what domestic abuse is in these cases and also requires that in a situation in which one of the parents is asking that the
the bill. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. colleagues, House Bill 1848 is a revision to our joint custody law that we passed
a couple sessions ago that is meant to clarify what it means in a situation in which there is a domestic, allegations of domestic abuse and how we handle custody determinations in those situations. So what it does in the first place is it creates a definition for domestic abuse. There was not a
session or two while mom and baby are still in the hospital right after birth but don't have coverage for any continuing visits maybe after they come home and have some additional questions or issues there's no coverage for those follow-up appointments so this would ensure that they have access to those follow-up appointments as well. I'd appreciate a good vote. Representative Representative
insurers and giving us some input on how best to make this happen. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.
you speak to that? Yeah, sure. Some insurance does, however, not all of the insurers in the state are covering lactation consultants. There's also a difference in the type of lactation consultancy that has been covered in the past as some of them might provide a
them assist them and trying to figure out how to get the latching right and how to do pumping and and to do all the things that make sure that they get that that good start for breastfeeding for their children we know because we have a lot of science that supports this that breastfed babies have very good outcomes but breastfeeding also has a lot of great outcomes for mom it can help lower the risk of SIDS infections and chronic illness in babies, but it can also reduce the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and postpartum depression for the moms. Professional lactation support can increase breastfeeding success rates and also reduce complications for mom and for babies. So this is a, it's a very pro mom bill, very pro baby bill. I'm very excited about it. I appreciate all the help that we received from a lot of the stakeholders from Medicaid and from some of the
consultants for those of you in the chamber who have either struggled with breastfeeding or worked with your your wife or or significant other who also struggles breastfeeding you'll know that it turns out that breastfeeding is not one of those things that comes easy to every woman and can be a real difficulty especially when you're trying to get used to motherhood and all the sleepless nights everything that comes along with it what this bill does is ensures that our new moms have access to lactate lactation consultants who can help guide
Representative Hudson, you're recognized to explain your bill. Thank you Mr. Speaker. Colleagues, HB 1333 today ensures
that our breastfeeding moms have access to lactation

Representative Brown, that's exactly right. And so that way we're not leaving these veterans with a big bill when they get out. I mean, when you're talking in terms of concerns about recidivism or reintegration into society, getting back home and then getting a letter in the mail that says you owe the VA $10,000, $20,000, $30,000, $40,000 is no way to start. Correct. Thank you. If I could add just one
receive the full amount of their benefits. It's reduced down to a percentage while they're
with those services so everybody everyone's screened correct but then only the ones that qualify for services through the va because vrss which is run by the veterans administration will spit back out the names of those people who are veterans
Yes, we tried to limit this to either class A misdemeanors or felonies, and those are the people who are in it rather than having the people who are just in and out, you know, there for a few
know, I guess if we're being technical, I mean,
