Please join me in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you that you truly are Heavenly Father, that when we come and pray to you, you care and you listen and you answer our prayers. And so we begin today, Father, by thanking you for the prayers that have been answered by the return of Representative Barnett. Lord, we lift up the family of Representative Gene. We know that his son has been in surgery today and we pray for skill and wisdom and guidance for the surgeons And as they operate post-operation, all of the treatments that they will do, we pray that you'll be with his family as well.
Lord, we know that the work is beginning in earnest. And so, Lord, as we really pick up steam, I pray, Father, that you will just give wisdom to those who are serving us as the residents of Arkansas. Lord, your word tells us in Scripture that we can come to you if we need wisdom and ask, and you will give it to us liberally. So I just pray that you will bless the members of the house with wisdom or bless them to pursue with the wisdom to pursue excellence and not settle for what is expedient.
Lord, I pray as they get into the weeds of legislation and the issues and as we tend to get lost in those things, you'll give them the wisdom to be mindful of the people that they serve and not the personal questions and opinions and struggles that they may have or that they're working through. Lord, I pray that you'll help them to have the wisdom to be mindful of principles and not get lost in the politics or policies or whatever. Lord, I pray that you'll bless them with wisdom, that you'll guide them to the things that are right and that are just, and it will bless the people that they serve.
Lord, as I've talked to them today and left families over the weekend and all of that, I know that they give up much to serve. And so I pray that you will bless them for their service And what they give to this body and for the people of Arkansas Bless their service and guide them In Jesus' name we pray, amen I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America

1001. House Memorial Resolution 1001, in respectful memory of Mr. Artis Williams, and in recognition of his contributions to the state of Arkansas and his local community. Representative Fielding, you're recognized.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, may I also request the Reverend Zinnitus James Worry, would you please join me? Mr. Speaker and members of the House, I bring to you this House Moral Resolution 1001. It's about a giant gentleman of Stevens, Arkansas, that has touched lives beyond Stevens, throughout Arkansas, throughout this country.
I say that because this gentleman was an educator, that he taught kids, that teach, educated for several years. But on January the 9th, Mr. Artis William's name was changed. It was changed from artist William to the almighty God said, servant, come home.
I have a greater place for you now. The family of Mr. William is here in the gallery of Mr. Speaker, and I respectfully ask the clerk to read the resolution

in its entirety. Read the resolution, Mr. Clerk. Whereas Mr. Artis Williams, born on November 5, 1935, of Stevens, Arkansas, died on Wednesday, January the 9th, 2013, at the age of 77 years
and whereas Mr. Williams was the 9th of 14 children born to Martha and John Williams, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death and whereas Mr. Williams was a 1957 graduate of Carver High School in Stevens, Arkansas, Received a bachelor's degree in biological science from the Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical, and Normal College, now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Obtained a master's degree in science education from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
And studied at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, and Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. And whereas Mr. Williams taught school in the Stevens Public School District for 34 years before retirement and subsequently taught for two years part-time in the McNeil School District. and, whereas Mr. Williams served as past Master of St. John Lodge, No. 456, F&AM, Prince Hall Affiliated,
past Commander-in-Chief of the J.C. Corbin Consistitory, No. 204, member of the 33rd Degree of the United Supreme Council of Prince Hall Affiliation, Southern Jurisdiction, member of the Ouachita Conservation District, member of the Farm Bureau Insurance Board, member of the Buena Vista Water Association, and president of the Carver High School Reunion Committee. And whereas Mr. Williams was a volunteer in the Stevens Community Outreach Center, as a member of the St. Stevens Missionary Baptist Church,
he served in the ministry of a deacon and as chair for many years and as a youth Sunday school teacher, and initiated the Stevens High School Senior Day program held at St. Stevens Baptist Church annually at 6 p.m. on the first Sunday in May. This program has spanned over 30 years and was designed to exhort and honor students as they embark upon adulthood. And whereas over the years, Deacon Williams accomplished much as a family man, an educator, and a pillar of his community,
although he achieved much, he maintained his quiet, temperate, poised, and spiritual standard across every walk of life. And this common thread ran across every aspect of his life. And whereas Deacon Williams is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby Sims Williams of the home, one son, Cedric Williams of Sherwood, Arkansas, two daughters, Cecilia Williams of Newport, Arkansas, Andrea Williams of Guy, Arkansas,
two sisters, Louise Manley of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Ellen Butch of Detroit, Michigan, two brothers, Johnny Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Lonnie Williams of Stevens, Arkansas, two granddaughters, Tyra Williams and Sidney Williams, both of Sherwood, Arkansas, and a host of friends. Whereas the House of Representatives wishes to publicly recognize Deacon Williams' contributions to the state of Arkansas and his local community.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 89th General Assembly of the State of Arkansas that the House of Representatives recognizes Mr. Artis Williams' commitment, his hard work, dedication, and service to the State of Arkansas and his local community and commends him for his contributions. Be it further resolved that the individual members of the House of Representatives hereby express sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Williams, and upon the adoption of this resolution, an appropriate compass shall be provided to his family by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives.
