Senate meets at 8 a.m. on Thursdays and then their committee meets following that at 9 a.m. So if you have any business before Senate Agri Committee, that's their schedule going forward. We've got, I believe, Representative Thompson is going to run House Resolution 1012. Representative

the end of the table. Thank you. some legislation, working with these two gentlemen as well as representatives from the Ag Council, the rice industry, the soybean industry. What we're doing is passing a resolution that will encourage the governor when appointments are made to the research and promotion boards to consider geographic location of those members that are appointed. All those years I worked for Extension Service in the Division of Agriculture, the research and promotion boards fund so much educational work. It is a tremendous asset to our state. We were able to get a lot of things moved forward and out so that farmers could actually see firsthand how the research was going. Farmers could actually experience doing the things that happened in a lab. It happened on an experiment station or in a greenhouse. house, then it happened on a university farm, well, this program puts it out where farmers actually are doing the work. And farmers fund that program through a checkoff program, and most of y'all are fully aware of the checkoff program, but some may not be. And it's a various amount, depending on what crop you're dealing with, but money is checked off and put into the Research and Promotion Program. Well, all we're doing is when appointments are made to those boards, we're asking the governor to give geographic consideration so that all areas of the state have an opportunity to be represented on the various boards. We're not changing the way that appointments are made. We're not changing the number of appointments. We're not changing anything in the bill where various agencies and groups actually get to make selections and recommendations to the governor and then he picks who needs to go on. We're simply asking that after that process is complete to look it over and to see if all areas of the state are geographically represented. And with that, I think you've all read the subtitle and what the resolution is about. We'll be happy to answer any questions.

Mr. Chairman. Representative, I was just curious, are there any other commissions that have this same encouraging language? It seems to me that there's usually geographic diversity on the State Police Commission and Game and Fish Commission and several other commissions. So I'm just curious to know if any other commissions have this kind of encouraging language, or is it just a matter of practice? Do we know? I

have no idea. I was only been involved in, of course, agriculture is all. That was what my whole career was about, and I'm not aware of the other boards. so this is a model after you know very not at all okay i was just curious thank you very much represented was

is this a need for a representation for geographic areas are more just a specific area and areas of expertise within those areas like them you need more cattlemen are you need more

The people that are appointed to these boards most of the time actually are farmers that are growing the various crops or livestock. What this does is, say, in my case, I worked in the Arkansas River Valley, which is part of the row crop area of Arkansas. It's a small part, but it includes all of the land up and down the Arkansas River from Faulkner County, which is just west of Conway, all the way to the Oklahoma line. Of course, there's northeast Arkansas, the Delta. There's the South Delta. There's the Grand Prairie. There's southwest Arkansas. There's several areas of the state that crops are produced. And what it's doing is saying, okay, they take that money and they put research and verification fields all over the state. And this is just going to give farmers a chance that are sitting on those boards to be represented from all areas

of the state. Follow-up, please. So you're saying it's more of a geographical need because, but does that also represent different crop needs or different? Yes, ma'am. All of the, right at

the end there, it tells all the different crops that are represented. I saw that. The university itself provides the research base. Any other questions? Is there anybody, I don't

think anybody signed up to speak for or against the resolution. Representative Meeks, you're recognized for a motion. Motion do pass. Motion do pass. All those in favor, indicate by saying aye. Aye. Those opposed, the resolution is passed. Thank you, Mr. Chair. Thank you, committee. Thank you, Representative Thompson. The remaining two items on our regular agenda are going to be passed over today. Members, it looks like we probably will not meet on Friday, but just pay attention to announcements and the website for that information. The other thing, we've got a couple committee events coming up in the next several weeks, So pay attention to your e-mails from Tammy and be on the lookout for those. If there's nothing else without objection, we're adjourned.
