Currently, any time a mother loses her life or loses the life of a child that she's carrying, it's incumbent on the state to prove that that child was at least 12 weeks in gestation. That's true in both wrongful death actions and in prosecutions. That's sometimes difficult to do. There have been times where medical examiners and others disagree about the gestation. You spend half the trial trying to prove that fact instead of others. All this bill does is say that any loss of an unborn child, whether it's from conception to birth, counts the same.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. A lot of members have passed by my desk and asked me why I had 20 or 30 pink notes on my desk. It's because of this bill. One of my constituents testified for it in committee. There have been several children affected by this in my district. I think what Representative Hammer is really, what he's trying to do is very important to the state. I think we're going to do a lot of good here with this bill.
