ask leave for my brother and his wife, my brother Barry Thomas and his wife Jananne Thomas to join us on the Senate floor Members it's my great honor to be the little sister to a very very talented artist that was also a walk on Arkansas razorback football player
under coach Lou Holtz. I grew up on the sidelines watching him play football under coach Holtz and cheering for the razorbackx and cheering for my big brother who was a defensive end and that big brother grew up on a recommendation by coach Louholtz to attend the arttenter of College of Design in Pasadena, or where he graduated with a master's ofine arts. he's also a cowboy like Gary and a horse guy. he was a roper and barrel racer and everything else
so so so unbelievably fitting that my brothererry walk on Arkansas razorback football player and cowboy got to paint this portrait of your beloved Gary. We all loved him he was more to us than just a senator. He was our spiritual advisor because he knew the Bible and he could quote it to us when we needed it and so it's my great honor to be able to do this on behalf of
these senators these colleagues of mine are the ones responsible for this painting Everybody contributed and this is a gift to not only your family but to really the state to remember such amazing man and so I applaud all of my colleagues for letting me do this but it's their gift as well this painting will hang in the
senate chamber of for what was have to have been hit the remainder of his senate term so it will stay with us throughout his current senate term that he no longer can serve and then it will go home to you and your family as a gift from us. So at this time I'm to invite my brother Barry Thomas who's the artist and we are going to unveil the painting for your family
madamlieutenant governor, I would like for us to recess for 10 minutes. that's ok Senator

portrait of the late Senator Stubblefield who we all thought so much of and I want Miss Kathy and Amber and all of you all to know how much the state of Arkansas appreciates you loaning him to us and I hope that all the senators and any of those
watching heard that many contributions that Gary made throughout his time at this capitol because we know that all those hours that senators and legislators are away from you all we want you to know that that time matters that he made such an incredible difference to the state of Arkansas and to the future of children and families across the state for generations to come. at this time I wouldn't invite
any member of the family if you wish to say any remarks. I would invite you to do so. Would anyone, Miss Kathy,
Speaker 29
27:16
yes no maybe you would like to yes ma'am if you'd like any of your family would like to come to the microphone. I would we
Speaker 3
27:23
would love to welcome you and to have you say a few remarks. thank you as I look out into all of your faces
Speaker 83
27:41
memories are just flooding me because I stayed with him the ark and he would come in at night and he would tell me some of the funniest stories and then we'd laugh
Speaker 84
27:57
and then sometimes they weren't so funny and then we'd get kind of angry and then we'd get kind of sad and then we'd get all happy again and he'd come in and the
very next day with the very same person and he'd be just laughing and talking about how much fun they had so you guys you're all a band of brothers and sisters when you come in
Speaker 83
28:29
here you're ho and to work together as you guys did with him was such a blessing to me you didn't always get along but you loved each other that's one thing I knew and that
I got from and all of his staff I can't say you know what is all the things and all the cookies and cakes and all this stuff but ohimmy some stories with him and and the funny thing is I was we
Speaker 84
29:15
were with him and Missy we were at a restaurant inon Caldwell another family your son was there and your wife and we were just all laughing and talking and this one lady one of the senator's watch she had to go to the restroom and she went downstairs and he had to go down three flights of stairs or when she came back up she we heard this big thud and she fell up the third stair. m emb er remember and of course Missy everything's
funny to Missy and she just started dying laughing well it wasn't very long aimmie went down and then he came back up the stairs and he fell up the stairs so Missy, I mean I thought we were just going to have to remove her from the from underneath the table she was laughing so hard but then you know they do put your picture on posters with you hanging on light poles too
but there's so many precious memories that we have of all of you and going to aaska with senator Cadwell and and Senator Johnson and I could just go through here I've watched all of you in your element in your committee you know your meetings and and and they were so good and the way that you try to take care of Arkansas. I know it's
your heart that's what you want to do you want to take care of Arkansas and that's what Garyry brought home and he said we want to take care of Arkansas. we want to take care of Arkansas you know we got to we've got to do that we got to do that but number one thing with Garyry was he loved the Lord with all his heart and so as far as hard as he fought at the very end without even some of his body missing as hard as he fought he told us about Jesus.
and and senator Simon, you have come in I'm gonna take a spot you're you're going to find out you've got a lot of people that are gonna love on you they're all gonna love on you and and you're going to have a lot of good times. you're going to have a lot of hard times. Your wife's gonna have a lot of hard times but but like I said you're a band of brothers and sisters that come together oh senatorulllivan your wife and I
had dinner. Mark Johnson's lunch we had lunch dinners. I ran into a lot of you guys on trips we had uhjan Janna by the there's just so many memories so many memories and you're going to make them too you're going to make them too. thank you for the honor thank you so much for the honor if he was here today he would say I'm worth it he would he
