Chair, and the truth is, Mr. Chair, Senator Malek asked me to present this bill at the very last minute because he was going to be out of town, so I don't really know much about it, and I'm going to allow Lisa McGee from DHS to educate us on the substance of it, if that's okay with the committee. Okay, go ahead and

Services. Okay, go ahead. Thank you. What this does is extend the Arkansas Legislative Task Force on Abused and Neglected Children. We've been around for several years now and actually have a very good legislative pack at this session. We probably have five or six bills that are coming out of this task force. We've not been a sit up here, do nothing task force. We've been very active. I think when I talked with Senator Malek, we'd like to go ahead and extend it at least two years, and then he said at that point we'd look on whether or not we'd roll this into an existing committee here at the Capitol.
But we feel like we have at least another two years' worth of good work that can get

about Arkansas State University in their past two seasons and their success in football obviously with changes among coaches and etc this speaks a lot for the students of the campus and the leadership ability within them and they will all be here on Wednesday of next week coaches and players Hal will be in the house and it would be a true honor to present this resolution on the house
floor next Wednesday and I appreciate a good vote well

that the Arkansas State University team did this year and how they've represented not only their university but also the state of Arkansas so does anybody else have any other comments or

I'd also like to ask Representative Copenhaver how his performance of the national anthem went last night at the basketball game. Well, we won the ball

game. So that was the main intent, but it was very pleasurable and a wonderful crowd, and that's why I sing with other gentlemen, because I don't want to sing national anthem by myself. I know you did an outstanding job.
And I might let the committee know as well that my son is the mascot for Arkansas State University, And so I kind of have a personal interest as well. He finished ninth in the nation this year. So he will be here as well on Wednesday.

He is here, so Representative McGill, go ahead and present your resolution. Good morning. Thank you, Mr. Chair and committee. I come to you today on behalf of not only the citizens of Fort Smith, Arkansas, but our state and nation to propose a resolution in memory of the great General William Orlando Darby.
We call him General William O. Darby. If you've studied American history and read about the great men, you know about William O. Darby. The citizens of Fort Smith is going to erect a monument in his honor in Cisterna Park and this resolution would go a long way in helping us with the fundraising effort. A bit about General Darby and it's in the resolution
and like the chair mentioned a few minutes ago, when we get these it's a good idea to read them and you'll find some very good information, and you'll find out, particularly people from Arkansas, that some great people have come out of this state. General Darby has a camp named after him there at Fort Benning. He has a U.S. installation in Europe that's named after him. There's a high school in
Cisterna, Italy, named after General William O. Darby. there's a transport ship that bears his name General George Patton called him the bravest man that he had ever met I would appreciate a good vote City of Fort Smith and the state and the nation would appreciate all you do for

this great soldier thank you one of the things I didn't see mentioned in the resolution is the fact that Mr. Darby was also
inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame in the initial class last year. So he, you know, and that was one of the things that when I really first got to know him and his story was just during that induction time. Wonderful story, wonderful man. And he, you know, definitely made Arkansas and our nation proud, like Representative McGill said. So I would encourage you again to make sure you've read this resolution
but I would also encourage you as well to check out the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame. A lot of great stories, not just about General Darby but also, or I'm sorry, Colonel Darby but also the other folks as well who've made an impact in the military here in the state of Arkansas. So with that said, does anybody have any other comments or questions? Representative Payton, you're recognized? I'd like to make a motion at
Speaker 1

the proper time. Okay, I don't see any questions or comments, so I'm sorry, Representative Bain.

I was going to say, for those who may not be familiar with General Darby, he was memorialized. Yes. James Garner played him

in a movie called Darby's Rangers, I guess, back in the 50s. And I've seen it several times on late-night TV as a kid when it only had

12 or 13 channels. So it was a fun watch, and I'm sure it would be again today if anybody hasn't seen it. All right, Representative Payton, you're recognized to make your motion. I'd like to

make a motion that it do pass. All right, any discussion?
Seeing none, all those in favor say aye. Aye. All those opposed? Congratulations, Representative McGill, you've passed your resolution. Thank you, Mr. Chair of the committee. All right, with that said, we don't have anything else on the agenda this morning, so give me just a moment. Anything else, Mr. Vice Chair? Okay. With that said, committee is adjourned.
