the meditations of my heart be always acceptable in your sight oh Lord my strength and my redeemer. Lord, we come to you today first in prayer for the people of Arkansas who we are honored to serve. We pray for every soul in this state, but especially those who are suffering from COVID-19, for those who have died, who are sick, who have been sick, who are hurting financially or educationally, whose futures are uncertain. We pray that you restore them as only you can. We also pray for those who risk their health every day to do the important work that
you have set before them. Lord, we also come to you today in prayer for the members of this body. And to be clear, Lord, I am including the lieutenant governor in that request. We pray, as someone has said before me, that we are worthy of the power and responsibility that you have placed upon us, and that we exercise that power and responsibility with wisdom and restraint. With humility, Lord, we ask that you give us strength and courage to advocate for the principles and beliefs that you place in our hearts, but also for the strength and courage
to listen with open ears and open hearts to each other. For we know that each of us has much to learn from others in this room, especially those who come here with perspectives different from our own. In heated moments, Lord, which we know will naturally and inevitably arise, we pray that we hearken back to moments like this, because we know that our relationship with you serves as the foundation of our relationships with each other. From the bottom of our hearts, Lord, we give thanks
for the staff who support us in our work, because we know that none of the work that we do here would be possible without them. We also give thanks today, Lord, for our families who we love beyond measure and who, particularly for the next several months, nurture our souls when we return home tired from our work. We ask that you watch over them always, Lord, but especially for the next several months when much of our attention will be focused here doing the important work that you have set before us.
We give thanks, Lord, for our creation, preservation and all the blessings of this life but above all for your immeasurable love for the means of grace and for the hope of glory we pray that you give us such an awareness of your mercies that we may show forth our praise not only with our lips but in our lives by offering ourselves to your service and walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days I'll close with a prayer that you know is certainly among my favorites because I believe
It's a beautiful prayer for every person, but especially for a politician. And as you know, Lord, I use that term with love and affection. And that is the prayer of St. Francis. O Lord, let us be instruments of your peace. Wherever there is hatred, let us sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is discord, union. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. O Divine Master
we ask that we seek not so much to be consoled but to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. I pray
