Members we've got some very special guest here with us today we have a group of students from my district and a couple of our fabulous administrators they here here representing a group that is dedicated to the mental health and suicide prevention put just stand this is a group what we call life savers and. Hosts wide. It is great to have been there
miss Janet did to Jesus is a guidance counselor in our districts she is a. Very very passionate about suicide prevention and it's great to have her here with her group Mr Graham's concede you here as well also good morning thankful for your being here thank you members would get two bills that we're going to take care of your committee this morning first one is going to be house bill thirteen fifteen this is a re referral back to us from the bill sponsor.
Representative and it represented Fortner. You're recognized to present house bill thirteen fifty. Thank you Mr chair Jack Fortner district for. Good morning committee the needs are sorry representive in it District eighty. We we brought this bill to you before it is the seizure say school bill and you passed it out here unanimously we were so appreciative of that but we had a couple members that came to us
with some good amendments and we went through the amendment process and and include included those in there I just read one to you are the. It's on the the last page and what it says would change this to read each public school district shall develop and age appropriate seizure education program consistent with training programs the way we had it was a
little broad and that helped us narrow it down and I want to we we want to thank representative Hodges for bringing that to our attention and. So that's where it is we'll bring it back as amended and would ask for a good vote. Members any questions representative Hodges. I just wanna thank represented in it And Fortner for working with me on this No problem ask.
Yeah I apologize for delaying the bill I think it's a wonderful bill love the intent I think it's going to be a really positive thing for our schools a survey just really appreciate your working with me on this and make it a great deal even better so thank president I'll make a motion to pass. Members any additional questions. Seeing none anyone in the audience that would like to speak for or against the bill. None representative Fortner represent event you're recognized close for your bill. We're close to your clothes have a motion do pass by
representative Hodges all those in favor the most say aye opposed nay graduations your bill is passed thank you Committee. We will go to House Bill fourteen sixty three representative Johnson could see this morning. Great to be here Mr you're recognized yourself for the record your rate present your bill representative Lee Johnson district forty seven thank you for having me in the committee this morning here this bill this is a bill it can be from a constituent actually from one of my superintendents it started out as a small thing it's kind of grown into something that I
think is actually a better bill than one when we began the issue that came up is that there was a coach that was teaching on a provisional license and they wanted the cash to be able to each driver's education which seems like a Senate Johnson staff just over there's a others have admin yeah that needs to be taken care of first and I was on a roll you're on a roll so hit the pause button there because that I know you recover will. Members you'll see from this amendment all the cement is
doing is adding Senator jim Dotson is co sponsoring the bill. I'm I'm where the amendment may kill the bill my apologies. Yeah. This is just a minute at any other Senator Dotson is a co sponsor. Members you've got you have the amendment in front of you is setting Senator jim Dotson is co sponsor for the sanity and have a motion from representative Vaught to adopt the amendment as presented all in favor say aye
opposed nay graduations remembered as been adopted you may present your bill as amended thank you Mr chairman so as I was saying and at the issue came up we had a coach that was teaching a provisional license and there was uh it's a small district as well as with a lot of small districts that struggle sometimes to get people to teach a variety of different subjects and so that they're wanting to ask the coach to teach drivers that but as it stands in rules a person with a provisional license can't provide can't apply for an additional eight endorsement so even though most of us here in this room would be
able to probably teach a driver's ed class there was a prohibition against that so we started out just as a process to try to correct that one specific issue and in talking to destin and school administrators it look it looks like there's maybe need to broaden that to expand that so that if you are teaching on a professional license you might be able to apply for any year it indoors meant and not just drivers that so let's say you're teaching math on a a provisional license but you have a background in computer science and you need a computer science teacher to small district currently on a provisional
license you could not apply for that endorsement this bill corrects that issue the other thing it does is it is it a removes the testing requirements of currently and and statute to apply for an area of endorsement it's it specifically says you have to test as it stands there's the you know as I got the the the list of these areas some of them there is specific testing available some of them there's really not now and so this clear clarifies that for desi gives them the latitude to decide what do they need to they need to test or do they just
need some sort of background information again the guardrails are still sat within desi to decide who would get in there even doors meant that that removes that testing requirements in the bottom just to clarify the drivers that specifically is one of these. Things that you can apply for we added that language at the bottom to make sure we're fixing that specific problem and I'd be happy to try to answer any questions of people having. Any questions members from the Committee. Seeing none anyone in the
audience like to speak for or against the bill. C. nine represent Johnson you're recognized close for your bill I'll close my bill Mr president will committee representative painter have a motion do pass by representative painter any discussion on the motion as amended a discussion on the motion. Seeing none all those in favor say aye. Opposed nay graduation your bill as amended has been passed thank you Committee percent. A committee that was good quick work thank you for being here this morning that selling to bills we're gonna take up today.
No other business for this committee we are adjourned.
