This meeting is called to order without objections. First item on today's agenda would be Senate Bill 509. I understand Representative Fortner needs to be in another committee, so Chairman Fortner, if you would, just have a seat at the end of the table. This would be Senate Bill 509. Senator Flipo, I believe, and you're running for him here on the House end. If you would, just state your name for the committee, and you're recognized to present the bill. Jack Fortner, District No. 4. And, Chairman, thank you for

the latitude, and committee, thank you as well. This is a very brief, simple bill. What we're asking for, the Department of Corrections wants their board of directors to have their stipend increased from $85 to $125. They are an all-volunteer board, and this is equivalent to our per diem, and the $85 literally doesn't cover their expenses. And in total, last year, I added up all the meetings that they went to. And if they went to every meeting, every one, this increase would cost the state approximately $5,000.

came to us when we got down to the Senate end and to honor their wishes with their family statutes. They were working with a few of the parks to figure out where they wanted to locate them and wasn't able to get that language totally ironed out. So what we did, this language just said they'll come to joint budget legislative council or general assembly whenever that is worked out, and we will get to approve where the location of these statutes will be. pretty simple just to honor their families any questions from committee members

Representative Jeff Wardlaw Unverified 5:41
559 i mean that makes it easier mr chair and committee senate bill 5.59 is more of a cleanup bill than anything these departments are basically being punished when they do professional service contracts that are less than a million because they're having to go hire architects and all that to even put carpet down in their agencies so what this build does is it says that if the projects are less than a million dollars and they do not exceed a million dollars then they do not have to have those professional services contracts to do any kind of remodel or anything like that and with that i'd be happy to answer any questions and i have some people from the department if necessary any

you, Mr. Chair. Thank you, committee. What we have done is we have addressed some concerns from the Association of Counties with this. We have taken out a line on page three before it had just a little bit of confusion. We thought we were okay with it. We wanted to make doubly sure that we were clear, so we just added that clarification by taking out a clause there. We've made an amendment of 12 visits per calendar year. That also addressed some of the concerns. We've got some nice, tight language now that seems to make everybody happy, and I'd appreciate a good
