This meeting is called to order without objections. First item on today's agenda would be Senate Bill 509. I understand Representative Fortner needs to be in another committee, so Chairman Fortner, if you would, just have a seat at the end of the table. This would be Senate Bill 509. Senator Flipo, I believe, and you're running for him here on the House end. If you would, just state your name for the committee, and you're recognized to present the bill. Jack Fortner, District No. 4. And, Chairman, thank you for

the latitude, and committee, thank you as well.
This is a very brief, simple bill. What we're asking for, the Department of Corrections wants their board of directors to have their stipend increased from $85 to $125. They are an all-volunteer board, and this is equivalent to our per diem, and the $85 literally doesn't cover their expenses. And in total, last year, I added up all the meetings that they went to. And if they went to every meeting, every one, this increase would cost the state approximately $5,000.
And I'm open for questions. Any questions from committee members? Representative Berry, you're recognized for a question. Thank you,
Representative Stan Berry

559 i mean that makes it easier mr chair and committee senate bill 5.59 is more of a cleanup bill than anything these departments are basically being punished when they do professional service contracts that
are less than a million because they're having to go hire architects and all that to even put carpet down in their agencies so what this build does is it says that if the projects are less than a million dollars and they do not exceed a million dollars then they do not have to have those professional services contracts to do any kind of remodel or anything like that and with that i'd be happy to answer any questions and i have some people from the department if necessary any
questions from committee members? Seeing none, no one has signed up to speak for against
the bill. Representative Warlaw, you recognize closed with Senate Bill 559. Mr. Chair, I

you, Mr. Chair. Thank you, committee. What we have done is we have addressed some concerns from the Association of Counties with this. We have taken out a line on page three before it had just a little bit of confusion. We thought we were okay with it. We wanted to make doubly sure that we were clear, so we just added that clarification by taking out a clause there. We've made an amendment of 12 visits per calendar year.
That also addressed some of the concerns. We've got some nice, tight language now that seems to make everybody happy, and I'd appreciate a good
vote on the amendment. Any discussion? Any questions from committee members? Seeing none, don't want to sign up to speak for or against the bill. Representative Jones, would you have a motion to pass? Have a motion to do pass to concur on the Senate amendment.
Any discussion on that motion? Seeing none, all in favor say aye. All opposed say no. Congratulations. Concur. The Senate amendment has passed. Thank you very much. Thank you, committee. Committee members I'm fixing to adjourn the meeting but before and after I do if you would just keep your seats for just a second. That concludes our business. Everything we had on the agenda this meeting is adjourned.
