Meeting to orders. This is Senate Public Health, and so little odd, we need to be able to, we have to leave um relatively quickly. Um, we, we ran along in our session today and so our, our apologies to the members of the public and anybody that has come for testimony, um, we're, we, we apologize that you've been here and uh this meeting is late. There is someone that has flown in to provide testimony on a
bill. And so it is my intention. not to waste that person's flight or time and to go ahead and let them, um, provide their testimony on the bill. We will not run the bill or take a vote on the bill today, but because you have flown in, I think it's just prudent for us to hear your testimony. So we're going to go immediately to that. I would ask that we have to be out of here and I apologize, um, really in 5
to 10 minutes. So if you'll just keep your testimony super brief. Um, and then send us any emails, go ahead and come to
the table. And, um, just state your names for
the record, and this is, um, house Bill. Microphones are not working.
Uh, Rob, Rob is watching, we need you immediately in the committee room to come and fix the microphones. I got a working microphone right here.

much for seeing me and listening to me. I don't, I bet y'all haven't been outside today because y'all have been inside so busy, but it was real windy out there and the flight in was rough, so I really do appreciate it. Um, so thank you all so much. Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, I'm Megan Moke. I'm an anesthesiologist assistant currently working in Round Rock, Texas. I'm a proud graduate of the University of Arkansas and I'm back here today because I want to come back here and call this beautiful state home once again. I graduated from Fayetteville in 2020 with a degree in pre-medical biology. I then went
on to realize my desire and my dream of being in medicine by attending a medical school based anesthesia program, um, I graduated in 2022 of that. During that training, I had more than 2200 hours of direct patient care, and I passed a national board certifying exam that was overseen by the National Board of Medical Examiners. This training is very similar to that of a PA physician assistant, which are currently utilized across the state in a multi. To the police. I now work under the anesthesia care team model, which an anesthesiologist oversees me and
3 others like me, helping with key parts of the procedure and is immediately available for help. Well, I had the physical and mental capability of doing all this alone, having that extra set of hands is the safest for the patient. Um, so I think that this model makes a lot of sense and will help protect our Kansans. Um So as you all know, in 21, the CRNA has passed a bill to help expand their practice and thus providing more access to Arkansas, and I'm here as an advocate for the exact same thing. This bill will continue to expand health care across the
state. It allows for hospitals to hire more anesthesia providers and to decide for themselves if they want to pursue the anesthesia care team model that we employ. Despite the law created in 2021, there's still a dire need for anesthesia providers across the state, and this this bill will help directly bridge that gap. So 3 weeks ago, I was the maid of honor and one of my college roommate's wedding, and as soon as this meeting is over, I'm glad it's ending quickly too. Um, I get to go up to Conway to meet one of my other best friends, 4 week old newborn
baby. um, it's a really exciting time to be up here. So I just want to say, you know, I'm being robbed of living amongst these friends again simply because I can't work here as an anesthesia provider, um, so this bill will help me get rid of all of those um remove those barriers, so I appreciate. y'all hearing me. Thank y'all so much. You are excellent

and right to the point. Thank you so much. Are there members, I mean, questions from the members of the committee of Ms. Megan,
I'll just call you Megan. make a muck. Easy to remember. Are there any questions from the members of the committee, to smoke. All
right, see you then. Really appreciate your testimony. Thank you again. I have one quick question. Um, this is allowed to in
the state of Texas. Is that correct? Yes, ma'am. So
Speaker 18

21 states currently allow AAs, um, your surrounding neighbors, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri also do. OK, so you're, you're

practicing. OK, thank you. OK. Any other questions? All right, see none. That was excellent and perfect. We have you on video now for your testimony, so we as members can go back and and see that and we really appreciate you being here and being a part of. the committee. All right,
members, um, if there, is there any other business to come before the committee, Senator Payton, I just have a scheduling

question because I have witnesses here that are going to have to plan on when to come back for those for those workers' comp bills.

OK, so we can I'm not sure
how long sessions gonna last tomorrow. We can either, I will yield to the committee. It can either be tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 tomorrow. Oh, OK. How, uh, so then my next alternative would be Monday upon adjournment of transportation committee. Sound good. Is that in the morning? No, that would be in the afternoon, OK 15 years back.
Transportation meets 15 minutes late afternoon. Yes, thank you. Yeah, Senator Hill is the chair of transportation, so I try not to schedule it over his committee. OK, is that OK with the members of this committee Monday upon adjournment Uh, Monday morning is a little bit of an issue for members who live far away that drive in on Monday mornings. All right,
seeing nothing, we that's when we'll meet, OK, and we will have Senator Payton's bills at the top of that agenda. Sound good? OK. And any bills that were scheduled today, will this afternoon we'll move to Monday afternoon upon adjournment of transportation. All right, thank you, we're adjourned.
