I will turn it over to you guys to put is where you want us.
Okay members to get everyone get to their seats. That. There is a conflict with the another meeting on the Senate side so we'll let senate do introductions that they want to do and then the because some of them will have to be leaving to go to that meeting so that I'll turn it over to Senator Gilmore. Thank you Mr chair great to be with you this morning thank you for everyone aged showed up to be a part of this looking forward to the work of this committee thank you sure the folks out here who are going to
be involves I know with policy and things in this committee but senator Ben Gilmore senate district one Southeast Arkansas it's my honor to to be here and be co chair this committee. Thank you is there anyone else that. All right. The most.
Thank you guys and we saw for the conflict with. What. So with that I'll let the interaction of myself I'm Rick Beck I'm from district forty three now which includes Conway County and and then we are in counties this will be the. Third or fourth time that I've chaired this committee By trade I'm electrical engineer so maybe that's that help me get up here but that anyone saw. I want to take off just a little
bit I want to thank all you guys for being serving on this committee and I have a lot of questions each time about some of things it's committee does and and how we do things so with that what I'm gonna do is just the brief explains this committee. Really One of things that will do will do a lot of traveling related to energy the different types of energy that are out there and and all that so so we can be in form because we never know what legislation might come down the
pike and you need to take we need to have that base Knowledge of of what how this is affecting and so on so forth so a lot of this along will be doing this. Committee is trying to Education I was that drive to educate myself to what's going on you know on in interviews pretty dynamic right now I revised the solar and the production credits and all that stuff is going to come up we're likely to see some bills this semester related to someone that metering some solar projects and things in the past we've dealt
with a lot of the the legislation that really had to do with the of opening is opening things up for the The solar people and the differences try to promote to keep Arkansas first and I never forget that would when Speaker Gillam asked me to beg to chair this committee and I I I want to so so what do you want me to do a civil what you want is committed to and he said this is not enough and that this is what I got license Arkansas wins mostly don't realize that
Arkansas wins on Energy we're we're like fifth or sixth in the nation as far as cheap affordable energy he said I want to stay that way he said just related school school and I want to he said I always want to make sure that that one leg that we can promote industry in Arkansas as reliable energy that's what we wanted so that's that's what we gotta do we got a look at affordable reliable energy also I was looking at the environment and making sure that we do everything we can to keep that that's but that's pretty much
the focus of the committee we'll see what bills come down this committee to. Does not necessarily we have is standing meeting room will probably meeting here are in a and we do that because we're going to the meetings are almost all of them will be at the call of the chair so I'll be looking at our agenda when we get some things on there and then I'll notify you guys will have a meeting so. That's the way it goes so with that I really appreciate are you
being on the committee and everything but. You can't do this without a lot of support now so I will allow our the staff to introduce themselves and what they can do that that they'll act as a to help you communicate. Good morning my name is Michelle Nelson and I'm the legislative analyst's and I'll be staffing the committee and she the bill is the administrative assistant and we're happy to staff which I'm energy. Thank you.
And is it I've already driving or crazy or some things but that's what so with that what I'd like to do is just real brief introductions and would cry Sturch over the representative well Gonzales and all all the way over this call ever to cider just come across your brief introductions your district and everything and for something particular about your district in terms of energy like you have a coal fired plant or something like that nuclear plant or something like that in your district you might mention that. So are you.
Joy. All are. All the way.
Ninety or six in the nation.
Okay I would also like to add this time if if someone out and in the audience out there like to stand up introduce themselves to the to the crowd I think it's important that we start to put names and faces together so when we see the various legislation you will know who will be working with.
John.
All right well thank you all for being here today to of. I would just prefer you. And I'll open up later on someone wants is to has has questions or something but I want to a common question that I get a lot is the relationship between this committee and the public service commission and. The public service commission their role is is really they're looking at us the legislation that we bring out here as far as giving them directions and
guidance as far as of the rules and things that they put into place so so that's the the relationship there's really that it's it's not that it you know I've I've met with them and and the every time I met with a new person over there and that's what they want to here they said no we we needs more guidance on this and guidance on that so what's direction what's the intent of the legislation that you guys pass so so always be you mindful of that what we were passing legislation I have to see some of the content that's what we we
need to make sure that we give them good guidance and and direction that they should be had I'm. One other just a personal preference of mine is is I'll always when I'm asked about. What's the next energy right is it's all or is it windows and nuclear what is it like that and I and I tell people it's all the about in Arkansas is a good example of that Arkansas has hydro we have coal we have very limited when we have a lot of seller So we have a really big mix of
power generation here and that's that is served Arkansas very well as far as Bielik reliability and affordability and our energy so so I want to keep it that way to make sure that we we stay. That number one. Portable and reliable I want to win on that every time because that will help us to attract industry jobs to our state is there anything else that someone else would want to. Reporter or talk about. Saying none we are joined.
