me about this bill. And later in the day they ran a poll that asked the question, driving exams in Arkansas can be taken in Spanish or English, but a bill in the legislature would make them in English only. Do you think this is a good idea or not? The results of this poll showed that of those taking part in the poll, 91.3% voted yes. This was a good idea. These are your and my constituents.
But to someone who does not have even a basic working knowledge of the English language, their inability to recognize and understand these warning signs could truly be a matter of life or death. And when we and our families are driving on those very same highways as those drivers, their inability to recognize and understand those warning signs could become a matter of life or death for our families also. Yesterday after I presented this bill in committee, KARK-TV stopped me in the hall and interviewed

But this is not always the case. How many times have we driven up to a construction area and noticed a sign that said,
it does do, it simply clarifies something, and that something is the language in which the exam for an Arkansas driver's license is administered. The primary issue here is one of safety, the safety of everyone who will be driving or riding in vehicles in our roads and highways. This not only includes those newly licensed drivers in our state, but also includes you, me, our families, and anyone who will be riding on those very same roads and highways as these newly licensed drivers.
recognized to explain the bill. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Members, how many times have we heard someone come to this well to introduce their bill and begin by saying this is just a little old bill that doesn't do much. It just clarifies something. House Bill 2007 is exactly that. As you can see, there's not much to it. It's about two-thirds of a page, and it doesn't do a whole lot. What
